Hacking ZEQUS: Fundraise £5k in 5 Days - ANYONE CAN DO IT!

First of all, please let me introduce myself, my name is James, I am one of the founders of ZEQUS. I have been working on crowd funding for nearly 4 years now, I have seen some amazing successes and some spectacular failures.

This blog is here to give everyone an idea of what tools and ideas are out there, so that you can go out and raise £5k in 5 days. Some of you may think, that is a large amount of money.

This post is here to show how 'anybody' can do it, not just your tech savvy, blogger friendly people can do it. If you think I have missed out something really helpful, please just leave a comment at the bottom and I will update this post.

Right, here goes, £5k in 5 days!

A fundraising-centric online presence - The results are in!

A fundraising-centric online presence - The results are in!

Many charities seem dis-jointed when it comes to providing a consistent (and impact) message to their community.

Research recently commissioned by ZEQUS in conjunction with two primary research partners found:

  • Over 86% of charities rely solely on their 'regular' newsletter and website to maintain the relationship between the charity and their community.
  • Only 21% of charities actively engage potential and existing fundraisers via social media, while most (93%) of charities admitted that they see fundraising and community management very different, split in to different teams and single verticals.
  • One respondent replied that they maintain social media "in the same way [they] do there own....couple of images, couple of posts and tweets...what more is there"!
  • When comparing 'new' charities with 'existing' charities, it was found that charities that had been going for less than 8 months typically "hit a wall". It was at this size where individual efforts (e.g. the skills of the founder, CEO or trustees) to maintain the online offering became stagenent and lacked the skills and understanding of how to move 'up a level'. Only 22% of 'new' charities had recruited a social media and / or fundraising specialist to the team within their first 12 months.

FUNDRAISING FOR MORE THAN 30 DAYS IS JUST A WASTE OF TIME

FUNDRAISING FOR MORE THAN 30 DAYS IS JUST A WASTE OF TIME

At ZEQUS we have set up some rules that determine how the whole platform works (think Stretch Funding, Setting Targets, Offering Rewards, No Commission, Max 55 Days). With being different come some questions!

We have already covered the question WHY DO I NEED TO OFFER REWARDS, as opposed to just asking people to donate in support of what you are doing.

The next question is WHY ARE CAMPAIGNS ONLY ALLOWED TO FUNDRAISE FOR A MAXIMUM OF 55 DAYS? In this post we are going to show that regardless of how much money you are trying to raise, there really is no excuse to have your fundraising campaign go over 30 days. In fact if you go above 40 days, you run the risk of your campaign becoming stale, becoming a waste of time.

Remember on ZEQUS that you only receive the funds at the end of your campaign (of if it is for charity, then the charity only receives the money at the end of the campaign). So the further away you set your deadline, the longer you will have to wait for your money. However, this is not the big problem with fundraising for longer than 30 days!

ZEQUS Angels Summer Events

With Summer now officially here (thank goodness!), we hope your finalising your holiday plans and doing some last minute shopping to reduce that last minute stress! However, with an average total annual sunshine of 1339.7 hours in the UK – which represents just under 30% of the maximum possible, we hope you have planned your travels.

While you’re busy planning what to wear with what, and what part of the kitchen sink you can afford to leave at home and holiday without, the ZEQUS Angel’s have been equally busy planning their summer…a summer of events, talks and workshops.

All ZEQUS events are free, so if you fancy crowdfunding your next holiday, or raising lots of money for charity while climbing Everest dressed in a Golden Head Red Pheasant Bird onesie, come and meet us and find out how!

Crowdfunding with a video: A fundraising game changer

Campaigns that have a personal video pitch are twice as likely to be successfully funded (that’s a ZEQUS fact!). It’s the first thing people look at when browsing your project, which is why it essentially acts as a selling tool for your campaign.

Offer rewards and raise more for your charity fundraiser

Fundraising for charity is one thing, but fundraising with crowdfunding can make the process of giving a more exciting and unique experience. Depending upon the strategy of the charity, crowdfunding can be used to increase membership sign ups, increase brand awareness, develop external partnerships, and, most importantly, generate more funds through the acquisition of new donors and increased rates of giving from existing donors.
