Can you crowd source the dining event of the year?

We think you can.

An exciting lead up
An unusual venue
Great produce cooked well
Lots of lovely drinks
Attentive service
Attention to detail
Good company
The memories after

We’ve got an idea. We want to celebrate creativity. We want to celebrate the food producers, the chefs, the mixologists, the brewers, the distillers, the artists, the designers, the photographers, the film-makers, the entrepreneurs- the people that make things happen. We want to organise the dining event of the year, pulling together a creative and beautiful meal. Imagine a single dining table seating twenty or so people that have worked together to stage a feast for the mouth, eyes and mind. Joining these people at the table will be another twenty or so paying guests whose PleaseFund.Us pledge will have ensured that this amazing and unique dining experience takes place.

We have our collaborators lining to get involved we now need pledges to make sure it all happens. £100 is a lot to pay for a night out. So we have to make sure that this is more than worth the money. Nothing about this event will be run of the mill. We will seek excellence in every area, if we cannot achieve this the event will not take place. We will not accept second best.

My (Aoife) role will be to make it happen- liaising with venue owners, chefs, suppliers, food and drink producers to get the most amazing meal on the table. Having developed and delivered sellout nights such as Burgher Burger, My Home Supper Club and The Disconsolate Dandie I know a thing or two about guerilla dining.

The design elements of the event will be overseen by my good friend and collaborator Carol Soutar, creative director and artist of many years experience. Carol will ensure that the body of design and artwork donated will be worth more than the sum of its parts.

Current situation

Things are moving rapidly, we now have collaborators in place to help the project gain serious momentum. Lee MacGregor of Mitchell MacGregor Public Relations is acting as PR. She is developing a media strategy that will ensure Create:Eat attracts as much interest as possible. By raising the public profile we hope to draw together diverse and talented people for a collaboration resulting in the dining event of the year.

Alexander Cole, digital entrepreneur and technology editor at The Skinny, is developing a superb website that will grow with the project (www.createeat.com). The interactive site will be a space where everyone involved in Create:Eat has the opportunity to tell their story. It will also be a space for interested diners to keep track of our progress and interact with our collaborators. No doubt there will be some spectacular highs, and possibly some lows, just to keep things interesting!

We have two extremely talented designers on board. Hannah Bloomfield and Cristina Spiteri are developing the brand identity and graphics for the website, helping to tell the story of Create:Eat.

Mike Aikman and Jason Scott co-owners of legendary cocktail bars Bramble and The Last Word Saloon will be running a cocktail bar at the event. Hendrick’s Gin have donated supplies for the bar.

We have secured Trinity Apse (formerly the Brass Rubbing Centre) just off the Royal Mile as our venue which is currently lying vacant. It is stunning. The idea is to have a long table for 50 people and a bar area. We have a few set designers in mind to make it amazing. We have not fixed a date, but we're thinking mid to late October.

What we need now are pledges, in exchange for tickets for the dining event of the year. The income from these pledges will allows us to cover the costs of the boring stuff; cater hire costs, licenses, administration and production costs. Come help us make this happen!
