Background

Of the 20 recommendations made by Nesta's Next Gen report, 10 affect education at primary and secondary level. We have a generation of young people that are passionate about videogames, and through a range of exciting, engaging and educational workshops and lectures we hope they will  be motivated to enter the industry and become the game designers, coders, musicians and artists of the future.

Festival Dates

Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th July 2012

The People

Games Britannia is delivered by a small group of enthusiastic and passionate people from Brinsworth Comprehensive School in Rotherham, Sheffield Hallam University and Replay Events Ltd.

Our Goal

The schools’ festival is aimed at students aged between 11 and 18, and a smaller number of children aged from 5 to 11. CPD workshops will be provided to teachers and educators from the Yorkshire and Humber region – primarily the 41 secondary schools in Sheffield and Rotherham:
• Hands-on interactive workshops teaching relevant skills
• Keynote presentations from industry and education
• CPD sessions providing a lasting legacy, taking games into the classroom
• Insightful and comprehensive careers guidance
• Advice and information for parents on videogame careers and PEGI ratings

Why Do We Need Funding?

Games Britannia has funding from Rotherham Local Education Authority who have paid for the entire venue. Unfortunately, due to budgetary restrictions no other means of funds are available to us - we need your help to plug the gap and enable us to pay for speakers to come and deliver these workshops and keynotes to students.

How Will Funding Be Used?

The funding will be used to cover the costs of a single workshop at Games Britannia - speaker, hardware/software and aid the production of vital teaching packs and resources to ensure that the education we provide will go back to the classroom and benefit more children.

£1000 would cover the expenses for a workshop, £2000 would pay for comprehensive teaching packs and resources to accompany them.
