Say it Loud
Black History, Arts and Activism | taking Black History out of it box!
Manchester, United Kingdom
Who are we?
We are a group of ordinary people, artists, activists and young people, from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. We come togther from different organisations to try and make positive things happen in our communities. This project aims to help more people from our communities to be inspired do this too!
We don't want to tell you WHAT to do, but we do want to give you the confidence, encouragement and inpsiration to do SOMETHING, to take part and make a difference in the world today.

How will the money be spent?
The money raised here will help us convince our funders and backers that ordinary people believe in this work. £500 will kickstart the 100 Club, which allows ordinary working people who often want to do something for their communities but just dont have time, to get involved in the exciting say it Loud Programme.
£100 will help pay the expenses of some of volunteers. Like the young men in the video, we have lots of people working away to make all this happen. Whether its folding programmes or hanging an exhibition, its all hands on deck throughout the programme and with your help we can afford to offer some basic expenses.
£100 will buy us another 1000 flyers, so we can get the word out on the streets of Manchester to encourage people to come down.
£100 will help towards the reproduction costs of all the photographs in the exhibition, wonderful images about the history of Black organisations in the UK, the Northwest and Manchester. Come down to the Z arts Gallery before the 27th October, Knowledge is Power!
£100 will go towards the £600 we need to hire the Theatre, Technician and Security on the 27th September, so that we can bring you Speakeasy, an night of inspiration, education and celebration with music, spokenword for all to enjoy.
£100 will help buy the arts material for the family art workshop on the 27th October.
We are asking for your help to take this amazingly different approach to Black History, Arts, Culture and debate.
The Say it Loud programme will take place in Manchester in the Gallery, Bar and Theatre at Z arts ( formerly Zion) 335 Stretford Road, Hulme, Manchester, M15 5ZA.
There will be
· An exhibition – which looks at Black individuals and organisations in Manchester over time and notable figures who have visited Manchester.
from now to the 27th October
· Say It Loud, a history seminar series – which looks at the legacy of Black organisations and individuals in Manchester
Check out This week on our blog.
· Speakeasy - an evening of poetry and music to inspire and educate
· Sell It Like It Is - a contemporary Arts and Crafts Fair targeting developing the consumption of Arts and Craft made by BAME practitioners based in the UK
· Tell It Like It Is – a contemporary issues seminar series – looking at issues around BME communities in Manchester with contributions from local individuals, organisations and networks and how artists can work with them to engage their audiences, increase membership and gather support.
· The Mbari Education Programme and STUN Teachers Twilight Session – providing workshops and seminars to teachers and classes on Black history, the global dimension and a film-making series.
· Shades - a specially commissioned art work which will examine history and identity. Using city of Manchester as its backdrop, the film will be premiered in 2013.
Though the idea for the programme has been in the off-ing for quite a while, the venue, Z-Arts, has been confirmed relatively recently which has then allowed the rest of the programme to become possible this year.
We need your help now to make sure we can deliver the full programme. The results of this fundraising campaign will be announced at Speakeasy and we will read out the full roll of donators on the night.
The 100 Club is your chance to become part of making this happen. We wanted to make sure that we practiced what we preached by offering this opportunity to ordinary people like yoursleves to get involved and make something wonderful happen.
As a 100 Club member, we will ask you to make this one off donation of £50 so that we can lever in funds from across a range of sources. £50 today can make a real difference to the us being able to pay our artists a proper fee for all their hard work and to shoe the Arts Council and other funders that we realy do have a groundswell of support out there. From you, the people who make what we do soe worthwhile.
As a 100 Club member we will invite you to come down to support the events as our VIPs and we will be pleased to offer you two tickets to every event in the programme, plus a range of other rewards listed in the Pledge section.
However we are really happy to have whatever you feel you can afford. So whether its £5 or £500, your offer today will raise our spirits and help show the world that Black people care and can and do make a difference in the world today.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our material and please call or email us any questions you may have about how we plan to spend your money.
